Reports on the State of Human Rights
in Bosnia and Herzegovina
March 1998 the Conference of European Justice and Peace Commissions convened in a Meeting in Banja Luka/ Bosnia and Herzegovina invited by the Bishop of Banja Luka, Franjo Komarica. The purpose of the meeting was to express solidarity with all those who tried to overcome bravely the deep divisions between the three people in BiH and who tried to work for reconciliation. The meeting was meant to show the concern of the Catholic Church in Europe about the developments in BiH and to learn from the experiences made in BiH.
As a result of the meeting the Conference of European Justice and Peace Commissions decided to follow the situation BiH more closely. Therefore the Justice and Peace Commission from Bosnia and Herzegovina supported by a European Working group started to publish an annual Report on the Situation of Human Rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
On the base of this report different national Justice and Peace Commissions promoted the public and political debate on the situation in BiH.
In the context of this work JP Europe promoted a declaration signed by European Politicians on the occasion of the 8th Anniversary of the Dayton Peace Treaty.
