|Short historical revue of the Commission|
Though Commission of Justice and Peace of UGCC was established quiet recently, the tradition of the Church responsibility in Ukrainian social life is very long, including numerous of pastoral awareness of Metropolitans Sheptyc’ky and Slipyi. Nowadays, Synod of Bishops of UGCC continues playing an active role in the promotion of human dignity and rights. One of the main responsibilities of Commission is to advise Major Bishop and Synod in matters of justice and peace. The Secretariat of the Commission analyzes an information about violations of human rights and gives advise and tries to convinced the Church (Bishops, Synod of Bishops, Major Archbishop) and state (local and central) authority. This was done especially in connection with the migrant’s rights, violation of the human rights in Holy Land, and concerning concrete steps of Ukrainian-Polish and reconciliation.
The Commission calls UGCC community to take social responsibility by supplying information (documents, books, brochures, articles etc.)
Commission works in close cooperation with other commission and organization of UGCC and with various NGO.
Though the Commission is primarily focused on Ukrainian internal projects, we consider ourselves open for a co-operation across Europe and the world.
